ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027

Where to stay for the Cricket World Cup 2027

The 2027 tournament is spread across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, so where you base yourself shapes the whole trip. This guide sets out the recognised accommodation districts in each host city, how far they are from the ground, how to get around and when to book.

Before you book

How to approach accommodation

The sensible order is to decide which grounds you want to attend, base yourself around them, and confirm exact dates once the schedule is published. Because the fixture list is not yet official, flexible, refundable rates are worth favouring so plans can change without penalty.

  • Tournament dates: 4 October to 21 November 2027, spanning early spring into the start of summer in Southern Africa
  • Hosts: South Africa (the majority of matches), Zimbabwe and Namibia
  • The match schedule and which matches each venue will host have not yet been officially confirmed
  • Choose where to stay around the grounds you intend to visit, then confirm dates once the schedule is announced

Options

Types of accommodation, and when each makes sense

Luxury hotels

Five-star chains and landmark independents cluster in the larger cities, above all in Cape Town and around Sandton in Johannesburg. Choose one for concierge support, on-site dining and dependable service, and if a central, well-connected base matters more than the nightly rate.

Boutique hotels

Small, design-led and owner-run hotels are a Southern African strength, particularly in Cape Town, the Winelands and the coastal towns. Couples and independent travellers tend to prefer them for the character and personal touch a chain cannot match.

Business hotels

Dependable mid-range chains sit near the business districts and transport links of every major city. The appeal is consistency: predictable rooms, easy airport and stadium access, and none of the luxury premium.

Serviced apartments

Apartments with a kitchen and separate living space are common in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Umhlanga, and make sense for longer stays, families and groups. Cooking for yourself also keeps a multi-week trip from turning into a run of restaurant bills.

Guesthouses

Guesthouses and bed-and-breakfasts are everywhere in South Africa and often form the backbone of supply in the smaller host cities. Expect a local, residential base rather than a full set of hotel facilities.

Self-catering and lodges

Cottages and lodge-style stays turn up around the smaller venues and near Windhoek, and sit naturally alongside a safari or a few days in the Winelands. Self-drive travellers building a wider trip around the cricket lean on them most.

Host cities

Where to stay in each host city

Each host city is different in scale, layout and the amount of accommodation on offer. The notes below cover only genuinely recognised areas to stay in, with distances and transport for match days.

Johannesburg

South Africa

The Wanderers Stadium

Where to stay
Most international visitors base themselves in Sandton, Rosebank or the surrounding northern suburbs, which hold the widest concentration of hotels and are close to the ground.
Distance to ground
The Wanderers sits in Illovo, between Rosebank and Sandton, so these districts are only a short drive from the ground.
Getting around
The Gautrain rapid-rail line links O.R. Tambo, Sandton and Pretoria, and ride-hailing is widely used. Walking between districts is not practical; it is better to settle within one node and travel from there.
Nearest airport
O.R. Tambo International (JNB), South Africa's largest airport and the busiest for international arrivals
Suits
First-time visitors and anyone wanting international chains, business amenities and the strongest transport links.

Cape Town

South Africa

Newlands Cricket Ground

Where to stay
The main accommodation areas are the V&A Waterfront, the City Bowl and central business district, the Southern Suburbs (Claremont, Newlands and Rondebosch) and the Atlantic Seaboard (Sea Point and Camps Bay).
Distance to ground
Newlands is in the Southern Suburbs, so Claremont, Newlands and Rondebosch are the closest bases, while the Waterfront and City Bowl are a manageable drive away.
Getting around
A car or ride-hailing is the most reliable way to move around the wider city. Staying in the Southern Suburbs keeps you close to the ground; staying central trades a longer trip for more to do on non-match days.
Nearest airport
Cape Town International (CPT), roughly 20 km from the city
Suits
Leisure travellers, families and anyone planning a longer stay who wants the widest choice of things to do.

Durban

South Africa

Kingsmead Cricket Ground

Where to stay
Visitors typically stay along the beachfront and Golden Mile close to the ground, or in the upmarket Umhlanga area to the north, nearer the airport.
Distance to ground
Kingsmead is centrally located near the beachfront, so beachfront hotels are within easy reach; Umhlanga is a longer drive but quieter and more upmarket.
Getting around
Ride-hailing is the practical way to get around. A beachfront base keeps you close to the ground and walkable to the seafront; Umhlanga suits those prioritising the airport and a calmer setting.
Nearest airport
King Shaka International (DUR), about 35 km north of the city
Suits
Travellers who want warm coastal weather and a beachfront or resort-style base.

Pretoria & Centurion

South Africa

SuperSport Park, Centurion

Where to stay
Centurion itself has the closest accommodation, with further options in eastern Pretoria around Menlyn and Brooklyn. Many visitors also base in Sandton and travel in by rail.
Distance to ground
SuperSport Park is in Centurion, between Pretoria and Johannesburg, and is roughly a ten-minute walk from Centurion Gautrain station.
Getting around
The Gautrain makes Centurion easy to reach from Sandton and Pretoria, which is why some visitors keep a single Johannesburg base for both grounds. Ride-hailing covers shorter local trips.
Nearest airport
O.R. Tambo International (JNB), shared with Johannesburg
Suits
Those attending Centurion matches who want a quieter, generally better-value base than central Johannesburg.

Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth)

South Africa

St George's Park

Where to stay
Accommodation concentrates in the central city and along the Summerstrand beachfront.
Distance to ground
St George's Park is central and close to the beachfront, so both areas are near the ground and the airport is unusually close.
Getting around
The compact centre makes short trips walkable, with ride-hailing available for anything further. A car is useful if you plan to explore the wider Eastern Cape.
Nearest airport
Chief Dawid Stuurman International (PLZ), only about 3 km from the ground
Suits
Travellers wanting a compact, coastal base for a short stay around a fixture.

Bloemfontein

South Africa

Mangaung Oval

Where to stay
Hotels and guesthouses are spread across the central city and its inner suburbs rather than a single tourist district.
Distance to ground
The ground is close to central Bloemfontein, a short drive from most accommodation.
Getting around
A car or ride-hailing is the practical choice for getting around. Larger-brand supply is more limited than in the coastal cities, so booking early matters.
Nearest airport
Bram Fischer International (BFN), about 10 km away
Suits
Visitors planning a functional, well-located stay around a specific match.

KuGompo City

South Africa

Buffalo Park

Where to stay
Most visitors stay near the beachfront and Esplanade, within reach of the ground and the seafront.
Distance to ground
Buffalo Park sits near the Buffalo River close to the centre, so beachfront bases are nearby.
Getting around
Getting around is easiest by car or ride-hailing. As a smaller city, its accommodation supply is limited, so early booking is advisable.
Nearest airport
King Phalo Airport (ELS), a short distance from the city
Suits
Travellers happy with a quieter, coastal base built around a fixture.

Paarl

South Africa

Boland Park

Where to stay
Paarl and the surrounding Cape Winelands are known for guesthouses, country hotels and wine-estate stays rather than large city hotels.
Distance to ground
Boland Park is in Paarl, in the Winelands about an hour from central Cape Town depending on traffic.
Getting around
A car is effectively essential here, both for the winelands setting and the drive to and from Cape Town. Many visitors base in Cape Town and drive out for matches.
Nearest airport
Cape Town International (CPT), roughly a 45-minute drive via the N1
Suits
Self-drive travellers who want a wine-country stay, and those combining Paarl with a Cape Town base.

Harare

Zimbabwe

Harare Sports Club

Where to stay
Established hotels are found in the central city and the nearby Avenues area, within reach of the ground.
Distance to ground
Harare Sports Club is central, beside State House, so central accommodation is close to the ground.
Getting around
Pre-arranged transfers and ride-hailing are the usual way to move around. Supply of international-standard rooms is limited relative to the larger South African cities, so book well ahead.
Nearest airport
Robert Gabriel Mugabe International (HRE), about 15 km from the centre
Suits
Visitors attending Zimbabwe matches who plan and reserve early.

Bulawayo

Zimbabwe

Queens Sports Club

Where to stay
Accommodation is concentrated in and around the central city, close to the ground.
Distance to ground
Queens Sports Club is central, so many central hotels are within walking distance of the ground.
Getting around
The compact centre keeps distances short, with transfers and ride-hailing for longer trips. As in Harare, room supply is limited, so early booking is important.
Nearest airport
Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International (BUQ), about 22 km north
Suits
Travellers wanting a central base within walking distance of the cricket.

Windhoek

Namibia

Wanderers Cricket Ground

Where to stay
Central Windhoek holds most hotels, alongside guesthouses and lodge-style stays in the surrounding suburbs.
Distance to ground
The ground is a short drive from central Windhoek, so a central base keeps you close to the cricket.
Getting around
Because the airport is well outside the city, arranged transfers or a hire car are the norm; a car also suits anyone extending the trip into Namibia. Supply is limited, so reserve early.
Nearest airport
Hosea Kutako International (WDH), about 45 km from the city
Suits
Self-drive travellers and those pairing the cricket with a wider Namibian itinerary.

Getting there

Flights and internal connections

Most international visitors arrive through one of South Africa's three main hubs: O.R. Tambo International in Johannesburg, the country's largest airport, followed by Cape Town International and King Shaka International in Durban. Johannesburg has the widest choice of long-haul connections, which makes it the usual first stop.

The host cities are spread over long distances, so internal flights are the practical way to move between regions — for example between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban — where driving would take many hours. The smaller South African venues are served by regional airports, while the Zimbabwean and Namibian host cities are reached via Harare, Bulawayo and Windhoek.

Driving is a reasonable alternative for shorter, related hops, such as Johannesburg to Centurion and Pretoria, or Cape Town out to Paarl in the Winelands. For longer legs, a flight usually makes better use of limited time between matches. For route-by-route detail, see the flights guide.

Timing

Booking and cancellation

Major hotel chains and booking platforms generally offer two kinds of rate: a flexible rate that can be cancelled free of charge up to a stated deadline, and a cheaper non-refundable rate that cannot. While the schedule is unconfirmed, flexible rates are the safer choice, letting you hold a place and adjust once fixtures and tickets are announced.

Book earlier for the smaller host cities and for Zimbabwe and Namibia, where the supply of international-standard rooms is more limited. Always confirm the exact cancellation deadline and any deposit terms directly with the provider before booking.
