Getting to Southampton
By rail
Southampton Central is the main city-centre station. South Western Railway operates direct services from London Waterloo. CrossCountry connects Birmingham and the north with Southampton, running via the midlands without requiring a London change.
Southampton Airport Parkway is a separate station, a short walk from Southampton Airport, and is also served by SWR services from London. It is the most convenient rail point for reaching Utilita Bowl by the match-day shuttle.

By air
Southampton Airport is close to Utilita Bowl. It connects to Southampton Airport Parkway station via a short walk, giving a direct rail option into the city or to the ground shuttle. Check current routes and schedules when planning your arrival.
Most overseas visitors find it more practical to fly into London Heathrow and continue to Southampton by rail, as Heathrow carries a considerably wider international network than Southampton Airport. Do not assume specific routes will operate in 2027; check current carriers when booking.
By road
Southampton is accessible by road, but late-July traffic near the ground and on the approach routes can be significantly heavier on matchdays than on normal days — particularly given summer coastal traffic in the area. On-site parking at Utilita Bowl is limited and pre-booked. Park and walk options may be available, but specific arrangements for the 2027 Test have not yet been confirmed. Southampton city centre and Utilita Bowl
The ground is north-east of the city centre, in West End. The two are not practically connected on foot. For most visitors, the match-day shuttle from Airport Parkway or Hedge End is the most reliable route to the ground. Whether the shuttle runs for the 2027 Ashes Test should be confirmed via official Hampshire Cricket and Utilita Bowl channels.
Taxis and local buses provide an alternative for those not using the shuttle, but local transport availability on major matchdays should be confirmed closer to the event. Local journey times depend on service conditions and where you are staying.
On matchdays, allow extra time for the final leg to the ground regardless of which mode of transport you use. Roads and public transport in the area will be busier than normal before play and after the close of play.

At or near the ground
There is an on-site hotel at Utilita Bowl. Staying here removes the matchday transfer entirely. Options in the immediate vicinity are limited compared with the city centre. This area suits those who want to minimise travel and are not prioritising evening dining or the central city.
Near Southampton Airport Parkway and Eastleigh
Staying near Airport Parkway or in Eastleigh puts you close to the shuttle departure point for the ground, and on a direct rail line from London. This works well for those arriving by rail from London or the ground-adjacent shuttle. Dining and evening options are more limited here than in the central city.
Southampton city centre
Southampton Central station is the main transport hub for those arriving from London or Birmingham. The city centre offers the widest range of accommodation and dining options. Areas around Oxford Street, Ocean Village and Bedford Place have restaurants, bars and hotels at various price points. From the city centre, the ground requires a taxi or shuttle connection — confirm local transport arrangements closer to the match.

Southampton within a wider Ashes trip
The Fourth Test at Southampton follows the Third Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham (8–12 July) and precedes the Fifth Test at Kia Oval, London (29 July–2 August). Direct rail services connect Southampton with both cities, which makes Southampton a workable stop within a wider England Ashes itinerary.
For a Birmingham-to-Southampton leg, CrossCountry operates direct services. For a Southampton-to-London leg ahead of the Fifth Test, South Western Railway runs direct services to London Waterloo. Check schedules and fares with the relevant operators closer to your travel dates — do not book on the assumption that any specific service will run.
Plan accommodation and rail separately for each city. The gap between the Third and Fourth Tests and the gap between the Fourth and Fifth Tests both provide time for travel and rest, but specific arrangements depend on your own itinerary.

Whether the match-day shuttle from Airport Parkway and Hedge End operates for the 2027 Ashes Test has not yet been confirmed.
